Reaching Your Potential

Happy New Year, podcast listeners! We wanted to start off right by encouraging you to pursue the changes and goals you’ve set! This year has so much potential for you and your organization, whether you know it or not. So, in this episode, we’re talking about how to reach your potential by avoiding the pitfalls that often come with achieving big things.

John Maxwell shares four key reasons people don’t reach their full potential. In light of John’s lesson, Mark Cole references our episode with Marcus Buckingham and reminds us of a misunderstanding that many people possess about potential. The truth isPotential is not something that some people have and others don’t. There’s no such thing as high and low potential. Instead, every individual has their own unique path to growth.

So, as we talk about potential, we’re really talking about your own unique path to growth. Keep that in mind as you listen to this episode.

Our BONUS resource for this episode is the Reaching Your Potential Worksheet, which includes fill-in-the-blank notes from John’s teaching. You can download the worksheet by clicking “Download the Bonus Resource” below.

  1. Great podcast. Inspiring and just what I needed at this stage of my life. Thank you leaders for making the sacrifice to impact our lives. May God continue to inspire you to continue to empower us. Blessings always!!!

  2. Great lesson on lifting the lid and releasing the sandbags holding down potential. It left me a little lighter after a season and awareness of not being a right fit or having certainty of how far I can go. I appreciate the difference in asking when will I get there and how far can I grow. My growth journey was incredibly jump started with application of Richard and Mark teaching and leading me last year. I tend to be highly aware of my shortcomings and less aware of the possibilities. My greatest takeaway is to focus in on continual growth with the intentionality to act with what I have and know now. I’m not where I was, I’m not where I want to be, but I’m not where I believe in faith that I will be. Thank you for the teaching. My prayers for comfort for Richard’s friends and family.

  3. Richard you were well loved by all and you shall be missed by all who knew you! You were a faithful man of God with an incredible attitude of inspiration for all who listen to you.

  4. Love it thank you sharing, really learned that everyone has their different shoe sizes! Your co work might not the job well in certain parts but you cant just say all together they don’t have potential.

  5. Wow, this podcast completely helped me take the lid off my thoughts in reaching my own potential. I am grateful that I no longer have to feel the pressure of not reaching my potential by a certain time. I am through with allowing the fear of ineffectiveness or lack of resources to hold me back from being solution based and focused on a better outcome. I am now on a new found, never ending pathway towards my vision, always trusting in the process, accepting challenges & adopting the mindset that any situation I encounter is only helping me expand my experience and affording me more opportunities to reach new levels. I also am going to start “enjoying the joy” when my accomplishments are mentioned instead of always being so critical of myself. I choose to celebrate this journey. Huge thank you to John & friends!

    1. Ashley, we are so happy to hear that you’re taking this opportunity to change your mindset about potential. Keep empowering yourself by seeing challenges as opportunities to expand!

  6. This teaching on potential is a great resource for me. I am growing myself as I grow others. I want to be a “Lid Lifter” too! I am just going to click rewind and dig in again and again until I soak it all in. Thank you John and Mark. RIP Richard.
